Anthropocene Epoch
National Geographic describes the Anthropocene Epoch as "an unofficial unit of geologic time, used to describe the most recent period in Earth’s history when human activity started to have a significant impact on the planet’s climate and ecosystems."

Though not yet official, most geologists agree that an intense acceleration in human impact globally began in the 1950s.

This series of photographs relies on a familiar pairing, by some ways of seeing, and a conceptual contrast by others. Each presents in both subtle and dramatic ways, the contrast between nature and the presence of humans.

Art Exhibition

Environment at Risk
Works from this series were included in the exhibition, Environment at Risk, at its 2023 annual exhibition September 14 - Nov. 5, 2023 at the Cultural Arts Center of Glen Allen. The Environment at Risk project was created by artist and environmental activist Jessica Sims, and is hosted by Appalachian Voices.

The exhibition featured work by multiple artists that addresses risks to air, water and health from industrial and fossil fuel infrastructure, and celebrates the places we love and the environment that sustains us and all life on Earth.
